Professor and Head, Department of Architecture. Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture, Karachi, Pakistan since 2008.Coordinated the educational and outreach activities of the architecture program in keeping with a mission and strategic plan that I developed, streamlined the Department by bringing in new faculty, re assigning faculty duties, revising the curriculum in consultation with faculty and introducing new coursework in accordance with the guidelines of the Higher Education Commission and the School accrediting body; also established a resource and research centre and forged links with schools of architecture within Pakistan; developed my own research agenda and contributed papers regularly towards conferences nationally and internationally. Taught three courses in architectural and landscape history and theory and developed two courses on urban open space design.
Carried out landscape design of Faculty of Education extensions at ten university sites throughout Pakistan for USAID, from concept and schematic design to full working/construction drawings with specifications, bill of quantities and final cost estimates. Top supervision during implementation to follow.
Dr. Husain since 2011 engaged in Beach Beautification Works at Sandspit, Karachi. Coordinated a project to develop a 12.5 km belt of coastal land owned by Karachi Port Trust towards a responsible tourism, liaising with environmental engineers, architects, and planners toward proposal-forming, environmental impact studies, and a landscape management plan to maintain the integrity of the Sandspit wetlands and coastal morphology.
